We look for up to 2 PhD candidates in the fields of Semantic Web technologies. The offered positions will be in the research team “Knowledge on Web Scale (KNOWS)”, lead by Ruben Verborgh (https://ruben.verborgh.org/), of IDLab (https://www.ugent.be/ea/idlab/en) at Ghent University (https://www.ugent.be/en) and imec (https://www.imec-int.com/en/home) in Ghent, Belgium. At least one PhD position is available immediately.
You will join an enthusiastic, creative and pleasant team of researchers at an internationally renowned research group with an outstanding working environment. The work will be based on challenging and stimulating european and national projects, such as EcoDaLo<https://www.imec-int.com/en/what-we-offer/research-portfolio/ecodalo>, DyVerSIFy<https://www.imec-int.com/en/what-we-offer/research-portfolio/dyversify> or Hobbit<https://project-hobbit.eu>. The projects will allow you to obtain a PhD and collaborate with researchers, developers and companies from Belgium, Europe, and all over the world.
You will deal with different aspects of our research domain, building your own research, but you will also collaborate with other members of our team to realize our team-wide goals. In particular, you will make sure that you investigate, develop and validate a scalable approach that allows processing, analyzing and integrating dynamic distributed heterogeneous (streaming) data in the form of Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) or Query-Answering (QA) to build intelligent Web-based decentralized applications.
Qualifications

- master’s degree (or an equivalent university degree) in computer science or another relevant discipline, e.g. mathematics, information sciences, computer engineering, etc.

-  analytical, programming and communication skills, team spirit

- fluency in spoken and written English
The candidates may have experience in one or more of the following:

- Knowledge Discovery, Mining, Modeling, Representation, Management

- Semantic Web technologies and Linked Data

- Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence

- Big Data, Streaming Data, Data Analytics

- SQL, NoSQL, JSON, XML, XPath, RDF, SPARQL

- Scala, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python

- Apache Flink, Kafka, Spark, Storm
