Essential Responsibilities: The Knowledge Discovery Lab fosters a diversity of technology and research areas of critical importance to the GE businesses. These core technologies include, but are not limited to: text mining, semantic technologies, massive-scale/big data processing and real-time complex event processing. We apply these technologies in exciting areas that range from in-home health monitoring of the elderly to real-time decisioning for the power grid; from mining textual field service reports to reasoning over semantic models. Technical backgrounds for the group include computer science, computer and systems engineering, software development and parallel computing. As a Knowledge Discovery Researcher, you will work with multi-disciplinary teams to research and develop new methods for information extraction, data manipulation and modeling for application to a diverse set of industrial, service and financial problems. You will demonstrate a strong technical background and independently execute innovative projects in areas of data mining, statistical and machine learning models, knowledge representation, information extraction and fusion, and data compression. You will: Build innovative computational models for enabling better analytics, data mining, and data manipulation technologies Bridge novel semantics, domain knowledge, and machine learning technologies to provide meaningful analysis of large-scale datasets Design and construct solutions to enterprise-wide problems for industrial, service and finance business problems Develop strategic plans, manages projects and guides teams to create innovative solutions Demonstrate breadth as well as depth in problem solving Innovate, patent, and publish as appropriate Identify and respond to changing situations and opportunities Execute technical assignments to foster new product designs for GE businesses Implement innovative software systems to solve key business challenges and create new products Acquire technical knowledge of technologies and proofs of concept Be a part of a rapidly growing software research organization whose technologies are vital to the company’s future Qualifications/Requirements: Doctorate Degree in Computer Science or related discipline OR Master’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline with a minimum 3 years of experience in developing analytics, data mining, natural language processing, or reasoning frameworks Experience with prototyping and developing expert system applications using analytic software packages (Python, Matlab, R, etc.), object oriented programming experience (Python, Java, C++, etc.), knowledge representation and Semantic Web experience (Prolog, JENA, OWL/RDFS, SPARQL, etc).
