Open positions at OEG-UPM: Post-doc, research engineer and educational content creator

We have several open positions at the Ontology Engineering Group at
Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (www.oeg-upm.net), to start working with
us by the end of April 2016, although we have some flexibility to start
later in case that the selected candidates have some constraints on the
start date.

Positions:
* A post-doc position on text mining and natural language processing for
ontology learning, which will be offered for a period of one year,
extensible to  three years depending on performance. Work will consist in
the application of text mining and NLP techniques to improve the current
state of the art in ontology learning from a corpus of scientific papers and
patents. The post-doc will work with a core team composed of an associate
professor, a software engineer and an MSc student, and will be able to take
advantage of the core text processing and data management infrastructure
that has been already put in place in the group for the processing of such
materials, so that the core part of the work will be focused on the
application and evaluation of a range of techniques to improve current
ontology learning results. This work will be associated to a European and a
national project, giving the post-doc the opportunity to increase his/her
scientific network and publish results.
* A research-oriented software engineering position in the intersection of
open data and semantic technologies, applied to public and private
organizations  This position will be also offered for a period of one year,
extensible to a total of three years depending on performance. Work will
consist in the provision of software development support in the context of
some of the European, national and privately-funded projects related to Open
Government Data where the group is currently involved, and will range from
the annotation of heterogeneous data sources, to the management of Linked
Data publication processes, to the development of open data APIs for a range
of public and private organizations.  This work will also have a good
visibility due to the fact that our group is the leader of the ODI Node for
the region of Madrid and of the Spanish thematic network on Open Data and
Smart Cities.
* A part-time position for the creation of open-licensed educational content
on open data and semantic technologies, offered for a period of one year,
extensible to a total of three years depending on performance. Such content
will be based on the materials that have been already generated by our
group, mostly in the form of Powerpoint slides, will be transformed into
HTML material, and will have to be offered both in English and Spanish.
Therefore, proficiency in English and Spanish is a requirement for this
position. The result of this work will be made available under an open
license, so as to maximize its visibility and reuse. And there will be also
opportunities to network

be held during the second and third weeks of April. If any of the positions
does not get filled, they will be open until a good candidate is found.

Requirements:
In all positions, good communication skills in English are essential. For
the last one, a good knowledge of Spanish is also a requirement. In all
cases, we are also looking for highly motivated individuals with a good
attitude towards teamwork.
* For the post-doc position, applicants must have a PhD in Computer Science
and a good knowledge of natural language processing, text mining and
ontology engineering. Experience in topic modeling techniques will be also
evaluated positively.
* For the research engineer position, a good software design and programming
experience is required. Knowledge about open data, semantic technologies and
public administration is not strictly required, but will be evaluated
positively.
* For the education content creation position, basic knowledge about open
data and semantic technologies, as well as experience in the design and
creation of educational content, will be also evaluated positively.

About OEG-UPM:
The Ontology Engineering Group (www.oeg-upm.net) is based at the Computer
Science School at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). It ranks eighth
among the two hundred research groups from UPM and it is internationally
recognised in the areas of Ontology Engineering, Semantic Infrastructure,
Open Data, Data Integration and Open Science.
The group provides an excellent multicultural research environment, with PhD
and MSc students from many different nationalities. Our research seminars,
which happen once a week for cross-fertilisation across the different
research areas of our group, are usually held in English and provide a good
way to exchange ideas and discuss about research topics.
