Pre-Ph.D. research position in deep learning for multilingual NLP at Sapienza University, Rome

ONE PRE-PH.D. RESEARCH POSITION IN MULTILINGUAL NATURAL LANGUAGE PROCESSING

One pre-Ph.D. position (with the possibility of starting a Ph.D. in
November 2016 on the same salary) in Natural Language Processing is open in
the Linguistic Computing Laboratory (http://lcl.uniroma1.it), Department of
Computer Science of the Sapienza University of Rome.

The position comes as a follow up of a 5-year ERC Starting Grant funded by
the European Research Council (ERC) and headed by Prof. Roberto Navigli
(see http://multijedi.org for details and publications). The successful
candidate will participate in a frontier research project on the use of *deep
learning and neural networks for multilingual lexical semantics* and will
work in the vibrant environment of a leading and highly-active
international research team comprising 2 faculty members, 1 post-doc and 6
Ph.D. students.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will work actively on new directions in deep
learning and neural networks for multilingual lexical semantic tasks such
as Word Sense Disambiguation, Entity Linking and semantic parsing in
arbitrary languages, also exploiting BabelNet (http://babelnet.org) and its
developments and extensions. The candidate is expected to have:

* a M.Sc. or equivalent in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics,
Mathematics or related fields

* Solid programming skills in Java (alternatively: attendance of a Java
course at Sapienza is requested on the first contract year). Knowledge of
Python is a plus.

* Fluent English. Knowledge of Italian is NOT a requirement. Knowledge of
other languages is more than welcome.

* Publications in Computational Linguistics and ability to work in a
cluster computing environment are a plus

* Duration: 1+1+1 years

* Salary: 25200 euros per annum, depending on qualifications. Note that
this type of research contract is exempt from most taxes (25200 euros per
annum corresponds to around 1570 euros net per month).
