The Tenth International Conference on Semantic Technology for
Intelligence, Defense, and Security (STIDS 2015) will be held in
November 2015 at Dewberry Hall in the Johnson Center on the George
Mason University Fairfax campus. The main conference will be held
Thursday and Friday, November 19–20, with a tutorial session on
Wednesday, November 18 and a classified session at a venue to be
announced for those with TS/SCI clearances on November 17.

STIDS provides a forum for academia, government, and industry to share the
latest research on semantic technology for defense, intelligence, and
security applications. Semantic technology is a fundamental enabler to
achieve greater flexibility, precision, timeliness, and automation of
analysis and response to rapidly evolving threats.

-- Conference Theme --

This year the STIDS theme will be semantics in cyber-physical systems.
Tutorial submissions related to this topic are most welcome, though there
is no requirement for submissions to conform to the theme.

-- STIDS Audience --

STIDS is a premier opportunity for collaboration and cross-fertilization
between researchers and practitioners of semantic technology with
particular experience in the problems facing the Intelligence, Defense,
and Security communities. It will feature invited talks from prominent
semantic researchers and recognized leaders from the target application
domains.

-- Tutorial Content Guidelines --
The main purpose of the tutorial program is to provide overviews of the
state of the art in the subfields of semantic technology. Tutorial duration
can be half or full day. The level of difficulty may range from beginner to
advanced, and may be strategic or technical in nature.

Topic areas should be directly applicable to the defense, intelligence
and/or security communities. They could be focused on one or more of
the topic areas listed below, or on related semantic technology areas of
(e.g. Semantic Web, ontology application, knowledge graph visualization,
etc.).

• Best practices in the engineering of ontologies
• Collaboration
• Decision making
• Human factors and usability issues
• Information sharing
• Infrastructure protection
• Intelligence collection, analysis, and dissemination
• Predictive analysis
• Provenance, source credibility, and evidential pedigree
• Resiliency, risk analysis, and vulnerability assessment
• Sensor systems
• Spatial and temporal phenomena and reasoning
• Uncertainty as it relates to ontologies and reasoning

-- Requirements and Compensation --
Accepted tutorials must have a minimum of five registered participants.
At least one of the submitting authors must be a registered STIDS
conference participant committed to being an instructor of the proposed
tutorial. Instructors will be compensated sixty percent of the tutorial fees
for full-day tutorials, or thirty percent of tutorial fees for half-day
tutorials. Forty percent of tutorial fees will be used for catering

 -- Submission Instructions --
Proposals are accepted in electronic format only (Adobe PDF
recommended). They should be one to three pages in length and must
include:
• The tutorial title
• A description including the learning objectives and a short
summary of the material to be presented
• The intended audience
o Expertise level (beginner, intermediate, or advanced)
o Strategic, or technical focus
• Prerequisites for the background knowledge of the participants
• A short biography of the instructor
