Call for Papers: 2013 International Workshop on Big Web Data

Collocated with WISE2013 - the 14th International
Conference on Web Information System Engineering

13 October 2013, Nanjing, China

The workshop will serve as a discussion forum on the web-scale data
applications, as well as the technologies that enable scaling up the
current data processing techniques to the size that is envisioned by the
future Web. The workshop will look for applications with challenging
requirements to processing and storing frameworks and infrastructures,
as well as for the technologies addressing those requirements. Owing to
our previous experience of organizing such workshops in collocation with
WISE conference, we expect a successful (in terms of participation
auditory and quality of presentations) event.

The workshop addresses the current and future challenges related to the
development of web-scale data-centric applications. The main topics of
interest for the workshop are grouped in four main tracks (web-scale
application scenarios, databases and storage technologies, big data
analytics integrated solutions, parallelization and scaleup techniques),
as follows:

      Web-scale application scenarios
      - Resource discovery
      - Streaming data aggregation and processing
      - Semantically-enabled decision support systems
      - Benchmarking of web-scale applications
      - Personalization and contextualization
      - Visualization frameworks

      Databases and storage technologies
      - Databases with a scale-up potential
      - Query languages and information look-up technologies
      - Data mining, search, and indexing
      - Context-aware data scheduling

      Big data analytics integrated solutions
      - Complex solutions for data processing
      - Workflow engines and data modeling technology
      - Streaming data acquisition and processing platforms
      - Scalable reasoning for the Web
      - Cognitively-inspired approaches to deal with large and dynamic

      Parallelization and scale-up techniques
      - Web-friendly programming languages (Java etc.) support
      - Parallelization libraries (MapReduce, MPI, etc.)
      - Scale-up techniques (proprietary parallelization software)
      - Middleware enabling the infrastructure access (HPC, Grid, Cloud)

Please note that for every accepted paper at least one of the
authors must attend the workshop and must register for the workshop and
the main conference. Submission of a paper is not required for
attendance at the workshop. However, in the event that the workshop
cannot accommodate all who would like to participate, those who have
submitted a paper will be given priority.
