[Apologies if you receive multiple copies of this message] FYI (find original at http://www.usi.ch/call-post-doc-itc-193489.pdf) --------------------------------------------------------------------- The Institute for Communication Technologies, Faculty of Communication Sciences at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI, University of Lugano) has issued a call for a post-doc position in Web data collection from heterogeneous structured and semi-structured sources, where both data access norms and knowledge are represented by means of Semantic Web Languages. The post-doc will work under the scientific supervision of Dr. Nicoletta Fornara (http://www.people.lu.unisi.ch/fornaran/). The position is funded by the project "Automatic Web data collection from non-reactive sources by means of normative systems and Semantic Web Technologies" that combines three fields of research: non-reactive web-based data collection; automatic extraction and representation of knowledge from structured, semistructured, and unstructured data available on the Web; norm aware software agents. The position will complement Nicoletta Fornara’s research which deals with the development of open interaction systems regulated by norms formalized using Semantic Web Languages, in particular OWL-RDF. The project has two main goals: develop models to formally express guidelines and norms for Web data collection and develop new techniques for automatic data extraction from the Web which rely on Semantic Web Technologies and are constrained by guidelines and norms. We are looking for an outstanding post-doc researcher. The applicant must have obtained a Ph.D. in Information Science or related areas, or must have defended the Ph.D. thesis before 31st December 2012. A strong interest in scientific computing is essential, as are good communication skills. Relevant research experience may include: the use of Semantic Web Technologies (e.g. OWL, RDF, SPARQL, OWL-API, JENA), experience in writing software for crawling and wrapping structured and semi-structured data from the Web, and experience in the development of software agents. The position is funded for two years by the Swiss State Secretariat for Education and Research (SER). The appointee will be an active member of the Institute for Communication Technologies, and will have the possibility to interact with a wide international network of collaborators. The research activities will be carried out at Università della Svizzera Italiana (USI) located in Lugano, Switzerland. We guarantee that the selection process will give equal opportunities to female and male researchers. -= How to apply =- Please send your application, including detailed CV and list of publications, a list of at most three references and their email addresses, copies of diplomas, and a letter of presentation and motivation via email to Dr. Nicoletta Fornara (nicoletta.fornara@usi.ch) with subject “Post-doc SER-WEBDATANET”. -= Deadline =- The call is open until the position is filled. Applicants should submit as soon as possible as the project will start on 1st January 2013. -= Contact Person =- Dr. Nicoletta Fornara Faculty of Communication Sciences Università della Svizzera Italiana (USI, University of Lugano) via G.
