CALL FOR PAPERS
First International Workshop
on Data Management in the Social Semantic Web
DMSSW 2012
In conjunction with ASONAM 2012
Istanbul, Turkey, August 26, 2012
http://uweb.deis.unical.it/dmssw
The huge amount of social network data available today is pushing the
development of techniques that aim at enabling the study of complex
relationships among the members of a social network. At the same time,
the Resource Description Framework is an ideal and widespread
graph-based framework to represent the semantic content of documents
such as Web pages, blogs, tweets, and posts, and their relationships.
We refer to the combination of the two worlds as to the Social Semantic
Web (SSW). The importance and amount of SSW data are impressively
increasing and call for new data management models and tecnhiques.
The first edition of the International Workshop on Data Management in
the Social Semantic Web (DMSSW) follows the increasing interest in
social networks and the Semantic Web and aims at bringing together all
those interested in data management in this setting, fostering the
collaboration and cross-fertilization between two related communities.
Expected papers deal with methods, models, techniques, case studies,
and practical experiences related to the Social Semantic Web. Topics
of interest to the workshop include, but are not limited to:
- Data models for the SSW.
- Query languages for SSW data.
- Storing and indexing SSW data.
- Visual representation and navigation of dynamic SSW data.
- Distributed and Cloud-based SSW data management.
- Query optimization for SSW data.
- SSW data integration.
- Statistical modeling of SSW data.
- SSW data mining.
- SSW data analysis and community discovery.
- Recommendation systems in the SSW.
- Ontologies in the SSW.
- SSW data quality.
- Scalability of SSW data management techniques.
- Benchmarking and testing of SSW data management techniques.
- Topology of SSW data.
- SSW data encoding and compression.
- SSW data protection.
- Trust in the SSW.
- SSW applications.
- Pragmatics of SSW data management in real-world scenarios.
- Risks and opportunities of SSW data management.
Target audience
---------------
The workshop invites researchers from academia and industry, as well
as practitioners, to discuss, propose, and elaborate new approaches to
data management in the Social Semantic Web. Running research, results,
and experiences on these topics will be presented.

Submission and publication of papers
------------------------------------
Papers reporting original and unpublished research results
pertaining to the workshop topics are solicited.
Research papers: We solicit submission of original research,
as well as experience and vision papers from both researchers
and practitioners. The paper length must not exceed 8 pages.
Short/poster/demo papers: A short/poster/demo session is an
exciting and highly interactive way to show research results
and to stimulate the discussion on future trends in data
management research in the context of the Social Semantic Web.
The session is not intended for the demonstration of commercial
products. The paper length must not exceed 4 pages.
Authors are invited to submitted their manuscript (PDF/PS format)
through the EasyChair system at
http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=dmssw2012
Manuscripts must be in English and formatted according to the
IEEE two-column template at
http://www.ieee.org/web/publications/pubservices/confpub/AuthorTools/confere
nceTemplates.html
Papers will be selected based on their originality, timeliness,
significance, relevance, and clarity of presentation. Authors should
certify that their papers represent substantially new previously
unpublished work. Paper submission implies that the intent is for
one of the authors to present the paper if accepted and that at
least one of the authors register for a full conference fee.
Reviewers are not required to read the appendices and the paper
should be intelligible without them. Short papers should be clearly
marked as such in the title and in the EasyChair system.
All papers accepted will be included in the Workshop Proceedings
published by the IEEE Computer Society Press.
Depending on the quality of the submissions, authors of selected
papers may be invited to submit extended versions for publication
in international journals.
