Delft University of Technology is looking for a qualified postdoctoral researcher in the field of Linked Open Data. PROJECT DESCRIPTION The candidate will work in the PoliMedia project, funded by CLARIN-NL. The project aims to link political events, in particular parliamentary debates, to the news items that cover them. This will result in a strongly connected dataset that allows one to browse the various media items that cover a debate. The aim is to support media-historic research into how the various aspects of a debate are covered in different types of media. We will work with semistructured transcriptions of parliamentary debates, broadcast news stories about the debates, and news paper articles. Challenges include conceptual modeling, named entity detection, ontology alignment and data integration, and enrichment of the data with other Linked Open Data sources. PoliMedia is a collaboration between the Web Information Systems group of TU Delft, the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, and the School of History, Culture and Communication of the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. ABOUT THE WEB INFORMATION SYSTEMS (WIS) GROUP The WIS group concentrates in its research on large-scale information systems, specifically information systems that involve Web and Semantic Web technology. Main topics in the group's research activities are: - engineering and science of the adaptive web, including user modeling and personalization, - semantic search and retrieval, - semantic integration and linked data. See also our website at http://www.wis.ewi.tudelft.nl/ LOCATION, DURATION AND SALARY The candidate will be employed by Delft University of Technology. Delft will be the main working location but other options will be determined together with the candidate. The PoliMedia project will run for 12 months and the position is therefore available for a period of one year, ideally starting on March 1, 2012. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement for Research Institutes ("CAO-onderzoeksinstellingen").
