Regards, Aidan ============================== Research Assistant Contract duration: 12 months, starting in June 2012 Salary scale: 24,000-30,000 euro per year depending on expertise and skills ============================== The Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI) is among the largest research organizations working in Semantic Web technologies. DERI's mission is to establish semantics as a core pillar of modern computer engineering. DERI offers a stimulating, dynamic, multi-cultural research environment with excellent ties to research groups worldwide. This is a unique opportunity to join the efforts within DERI in collaboration with our industrial partners. Given the high relevance of this position for a successful adoption of highly competitive research results into concrete industry products, the applicant will take the lead in the implementation and/or integration of client/server components, web services, semantic web applications and alike, as a proof of concept for enterprise data management. This development activity may partially include a general understanding of DERI's core research on advanced and efficient techniques for ontology mapping and alignment, query processing, data integration, rule-based inference, etc. ====================== The Candidates ====================== - Ability to work in a team-based environment developing state of the art software solutions on time and to specification - Motivated and proactive attitude, willing to take ownership and initiative in all work assignments - Excellent analysis and problem solving skills - Strong design, development & testing skills - Ability to produce relevant documentation including writing Functional Specifications, Detailed Design documents, Test Specifications and Unit Test documents. - Skills in diagnostics development, bug-fix and problem resolution reporting and documentation. - Leading interactions with peer R&D teams and technical primes across industry partners - Excellent communication skills, verbal and written - Creative Thinking ====================== The Topics ====================== Topic will be centered around reasoning over semantic data in an enterprise scenario. This will include semantic data integration via efficient query evaluation and rule-based reasoning techniques applied to existing enterprise solutions. The solutions proposed will consider (static and dynamic) semantic data available within the enterprise and on the Semantic Web, and must take into account scalability, performance, security and interoperability. ====================== Essential Skills ====================== - Third level degree in computer science or related discipline - Good knowledge of object-oriented design principles - Strong background in Java programming - Familiarity with Unix/Linux systems - Familiarity with C++ programming ====================== Bonus Skills ====================== - Experience with Semantic Web technologies, esp.
