ESWC2012 - CALL FOR WORKSHOPS The 9th Extended Semantic Web Conference (ESWC 2012) 27-31 May 2012 Heraklion, Greece http://2012.eswc-conferences.org/ *About ESWC2012* The Extended Semantic Web Conference (ESWC) is a major venue for discussing the latest scientific results and technology innovations around semantic technologies. Building on its past success, ESWC is seeking to broaden its focus to span other relevant research areas in which Web semantics plays an important role. The goal of the Semantic Web is to create a Web of knowledge and services in which the semantics of content is made explicit and content is linked to both other content and services novel applications allowing to combine content from heterogeneous sites in unforeseen ways and support enhanced matching between users needs and content. This network of knowledge-based functionality will weave together a large network of human knowledge, and make this knowledge machine-processable to support intelligent behaviour by machines. Creating such an interlinked Web of knowledge which spans unstructured, RDF as well as multimedia content and services requires the collaboration of many disciplines, including but not limited to: Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, Database and Information Systems, Information Retrieval, Machine Learning Multimedia, Distributed Systems, Social Networks, Web Engineering, and Web Science. Co-located workshops at ESWC conferences are distinguished meeting points for discussing ongoing work and latest ideas related to semantics and the Semantic Web. Of particular interest are workshop proposals with an interdisciplinary standpoint, proposals focusing on a specific technology of general interest, or gathering a sub-community. In particular, we encourage the submission of workshop proposals on: - fundamental problems of the semantic web such as heterogeneity, scalability and distribution - applications of Semantic Web technologies in specific domains - important enabling technologies and their adaptation to the needs of the Semantic Web - aspects of semantic web research that have been neglected so far *General Information and criteria* The decision on acceptance/rejection of workshop proposals will be made on the basis of the overall quality of the proposal as well as of how it fits in with the conference. The organizers of successful workshops will be responsible for their own reviewing process, publicity (e.g., website and call for papers), and proceedings production. They will be required to closely cooperate with the Workshops Chairs and the ESWC 2012 local organizers to finalize all organizational details. Workshop attendees must pay the ESWC 2012 workshop registration fee, as well as the conference registration fee. *Criteria for workshop proposals* - Co-located workshops cover topics falling in the general scope of the ESWC conference (refer to http://www.eswc-conferences.org/). - Workshops are intended to be genuine interactive events and not mini-conferences. - We welcome workshops with creative structures and organizations that attract various types of contributions and ensure rich interactions. - They are clearly focused. - There is potentially a significant community interested in the workshop's topic. - Workshop duration can be half a day or a full day. - We advise having more than one organizer and no more than four, preferably from different institutions, bringing different perspectives to the workshop topic. In case conflicting workshops are proposed, the workshop chairs may contact the organisers to discuss the possibility of merging workshops. Please note that the duration of the workshop might be adjusted based on the number of submissions received. Further, workshops that receive less than 5 submissions or have less than 10 people registered at the early registration deadline might be canceled. *Submission Guidelines* Workshop proposals must be no more than 3 pages in length, in txt or PDF format, must be sent via email to <eswc2012workshop@gmail.com> and should contain the following information: - The title and brief technical description of the workshop, specifying its goals and motivation. - A brief discussion of why the topic is of particular interest at this time. - A brief description of why and to whom the workshop is of interest, the workshop audience, as well as the expected number of participants. - A brief description (draft outline) of the proposed workshop format, discussing the mix of events such as paper presentations, invited talks, panels, hacking session, or general discussion. - A list of (potential) members of the program committee (at least 50% have to be known and confirmed at the time of the proposal). - An indication of whether the workshop should be considered for a half-day or full-day event. - If there have been previous editions of the workshop, their short description, including URLs as well as some statistics about submissions and acceptance rate, plus number of participants. - The names and contact information (web page, email address) of the proposed organizing committee and short description of their relevant experience. Preferably a single contact person per submission. *Important Dates* (11:59 pm Hawaii time): - Workshop Proposals Due: November 28, 2011 - Notification of Acceptance: December 7, 2011 - Workshop Website Due: December 16, 2011 - Workshop Camera-ready Proceedings Due: April 29, 2012 - Workshop Day: May 27 or May 28, 2012 *Timeline for Workshops* - Submission deadline: March 4, 2011 - Notifications: April 1, 2011 - Camera ready version: April 15, 2011 *Workshop Chairs* Raphaël Troncy (Eurecom, France) Alexandre Passant (DERI, NUI Galway, Ireland) Contact: <eswc2012workshop@gmail.com>
