Job offer; Software Developer of Semantic Service Platform for Web, TV and Mobile ======================================================================== STI International Consultancy and Research GmbH (STI Research), a research centre based in Innsbruck and Vienna, Austria which contributes to the international semantic technology community, seeks applications for a software developer. Both students and graduates are welcome to apply. The position is available from anytime from May 2011 onward, with an initial duration of up to 2 years. An extension is also possible. The successful candidate will be responsible for the lead development of a Semantic Service Platform. This platform will provide end clients with different services where relevant metadata and Web content can be dynamically found, packaged and delivered in order to augment client applications. The retrieval and packaging of metadata and content will be based on semantic technology and rules. A focus will be made on using available Linked Data endpoints and Web-based media annotations. An open API will be provided by the platform to many different types of client, including PC, TV and mobile devices. The position hence offers a strong opportunity to apply existing software development competency with knowledge in semantic and service technologies, as well as further develop and learn new skills in areas such as Semantic Web Services, Linked Data and multimedia semantics. As part of STI Research, the researcher will be part of a young and dynamic team involved in establishing new niches for semantic technology, including in television, mobile and Internet of Things. The candidate should be a Masters’ student or a graduate in Computer Science, with proven experience in software development, in particular server-side platforms, ideally with experience of working with semantic technology / Linked Data. Additional programming knowledge is desirable in the following areas: RESTful services, JSON, XML, SPARQL, spatial and temporal queries, rules-based programming and rule engines. Proficiency in English and good communication skills are also important. STI Research offers a dynamic and innovative environment with opportunities for international collaboration and personal advancement. Salary is based on the Austrian government research tarif. The preferred workplace is Vienna, Austria but facilities can also be provided in Innsbruck. The position is full time and we seek it to be filled by May 2011, and can be funded for initially up to 2 years with the possibility of extension.
