Dear all, thanks to your overwhelming input it took a little bit longer than planned to come back to you. What a difference to 1998 were the list would have had one entry. Meanwhile, Carmen and I have collected your input and we would now like to start phase two of the exercise. In phase one we were merely interested in data. In phase two we ask for your imagination, knowledge, and expertise. Up to now we collected mostly a plain list of companies described by: - name - logo - URI of their web site - short abstract On the one hand, this may be a good point to start from. On the other hand, there may more useful information to collect. Our questions are: 1) Is there a need to collect more information centrally or are we basically done? 2) Is there a very small number of additional properties we should collect? Maybe country of residence (also shown in google maps) may be an important further attribute? 3a) Is there a larger number of properties that would be worthwhile to collect? Or even a need for properties than can be flexible introduced, extended, and customized? 3b) In this case, we would also need a more decentralized infrastructure (wiki?) and Wikipedia-like process model to update the content? 3c) Instead of reinventing the wheels, should we reuse existing web sites such as CrunchBase [1] (or others we are not aware of?) to implement the info on ST companies ? [2] And yes, when we will have processed phase 2 there will be phase 3 were we need help from the gourmets of dog food. Thank you for your responses, Carmen and Dieter [1] http://www.crunchbase.com/ [2] Should we at least look for a better URI of the current web site? -- Dieter Fensel Director STI Innsbruck, University of Innsbruck, Austria http://www.sti-innsbruck.at/ phone: +43-512-507-6488/5, fax: +43-512-507-9872
