We are pleased to announce the formation of the Central Maryland Semantic Web Group. *This is free social network and meeting community open to industry, government and academia. *The objective of the Local Semantic Web Groups is to create a forum for newcomers to learn about the foundational technologies of the Semantic Web and for those semantically aware to keep up on industry trends and share their experiences. The goal of the organizers is to create a vendor neutral environment for open discussion and provide the membership with a valuable resource for information on industry developments and ongoing research. The Organizing Team will work on behalf of the membership to coordinate regular meetings with respected speakers from industry, government and academia. Commercial software companies will also be invited to keep members up to date on available tools and the adoption trends they are seeing in the broader markets. Discussion topics will cover a broad range of subject matter to include OWL/RDF, SPARQL, RIF, Open Linked Data, semantics in the enterprise, rules, inferencing and include periodic updates from the standards bodies and open source communities. *Our fist meeting will be January 19, 2011*. You can register at http://www.meetup.com/MarylandSemantics/ and review the agenda for our first meeting. Maryland is a hot bed or early adopters with DoD, NIH, NCI, numerous Biotech and Pharmaceutical Research companies, as well as a number of local universities and government research labs with advanced programs in semantics and linguistics. Please spread the word, all are welcome. We look forward to seeing you in January. Organizing Committee: John Hebeler, Booz Allen & Hamilton Marcos Osorno, JHU-APL Greg Milbank, Revelytix, Inc.
