WORKSHOP THEME
The effective delivery and presentation of information is critically dependent on understanding the context in which that information is to be used. However, a keyword based approach to defining and managing context has limited effectiveness, e.g. through the prevalence of homonymy and synonymy. Context needs to be defined semantically, specifically in terms of an ontology. Moreover, the interpretation of ontologies themselves may be interpreted in the light of particular contexts.
This workshop will consider all the research challenges related to representing, managing, using and learning contextual information, bringing together researchers interested in the use of context for information delivery, the use of ontologies to define context, and the use of context to interpret ontologies.
WORKSHOP GOAL
The goal of the workshop is to stimulate interaction between researchers and practitioners and between academia and industry, specifically to help create a common understanding of what context means in the various knowledge intensive scenarios being investigated by these communities.  There already exists a community looking at the application of context in information and knowledge management, e.g. represented by a variety of EU projects and some recent workshops.  The aim of this workshop is to strengthen this community and bring it together more closely with the semantic technology community.
TOPICS
The workshop topics include, but are not limited to:
*       Ontologies describing user context
*       frameworks for managing user context
*       techniques for learning context through an analysis of user interaction, and through machine intelligence and linguistic techniques.
*       context-based information retrieval and information delivery
*       context-based information search
*       the application of context to the identification of tacit knowledge
*       application of context-based information management
*       context representation, e.g. context representation languages and the use of ontologies for representing context
*       user interface research - to enable users to create, use and visualise their context 
*       techniques for measuring the value and effectiveness of semantically defined context management
*       context usage in applications
*       the use of context in the integration of ontologies
Whilst the workshop will consider theoretical issues, there will be a particular encouragement for papers relating to practical implementation.
PAPER SUBMISSION
