SW Interest Group, A key Widgets spec is in Last Call. I encourage you all to take a look and provide feedback to the Working Group. Abstract: "This specification defines an application programming interfaces (APIs) for widgets that enable functionality for accessing widget metadata and persistently storing data." Note that it uses the WebStorage spec, "A user agent must support: * the [Widgets-Packaging] specification, * the [Widgets-URI] specification, * the [WebStorage] specification's Storage interface for the preference attribute of the widget object defined in this specification." http://www.w3.org/TR/2009/WD-widgets-apis-20090818/#storage-area See http://www.w3.org/TR/2009/WD-widgets-apis-20090818/#webstorage Re the metadata aspect, an obvious comment from folk on this list might be that it could/should/might use RDF for the metadata API in http://www.w3.org/TR/2009/WD-widgets-apis-20090818/#metadata-attribute-values ... but note that this is just an API reflection of the Packaging/Configuration spec, which is now in CR: http://www.w3.org/TR/widgets/ ... either way, if you make comments please try to be constructive (eg. by drafting schemas, specific proposed changes, etc). Finally - why care about Widgets? Because they'll be everyone, from phones and desktops to TVs and cars. These specs define a mechanism for packaging up bits of Web content (typically HTML plus a bit of .js) so that Web technology can be used in contexts where heavier software systems might previously have been deployed... cheers, Dan -------- Original Message -------- Subject: TransAnn: LCWD of Widgets 1.0: APIs and Events Resent-Date: Wed, 19 Aug 2009 03:50:32 +0000 Date: Tue, 18 Aug 2009 23:49:40 -0400 From: Arthur Barstow <art.barstow@nokia.com> This is the Transition Announcement for the 18 August 2009 LCWD of WebApps' Widgets 1.0: APIs and Events spec: <http://www.w3.org/TR/2009/WD-widgets-apis-20090818/> The deadline for comments is 15 September 2009.
