Apologies for multiple postings ______ We are looking for a post-doctoral fellow interested in working as part of the Living Knowledge project (http://livingknowledge-project.eu/ ). A position for a top student interested in pursuing a PhD as part of the same project is also available. The work will be developed under the supervision of Fausto Giunchiglia (http://www.disi.unitn.it/~fausto/), with the co-supervision of Alessandro Moschitti (http://dit.unitn.it/~moschitt/), as part of the Knowdive Group (http://dit.unitn.it/~knowdive/), a large, multicultural and multidisciplinary group, which is part of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering ( http://disi.unitn.it/welcome ), University of Trento ( http://portale.unitn.it/ateneo/ ). Key words describing the research area of interest are: Text Categorization, Sentimental Classification, Information Extraction, Relation Extraction (mining), Semantic Role Labeling, Text Mining, Opinion Mining, Applied Machine Learning, Semantic Search Skills and knowledge relevant to the project are (E: Essential, D: Desirable): • Design and Implementation of Machine Learning Models (E) • Design and Implementation of Retrieval Systems (D) • Experience with models and systems of Natural Language (E) • Programming of major Languages: Java (E), C (D), C++ (D) • Ability to use machine learning, natural language and retrieval software e.g. SVMs, Charniak parser, Lucene, respectively, (E). Knowledge of Italian is not needed. The ideal candidate holds a PhD with top performance in fields related to the areas mentioned above. (S)he should have a proven track record of system design and development as well as in conducting original research and in publishing results in top conferences and journals. (S)he should be proactive, self-motivated, able to work independently and in a team, and capable of running projects and leading a small group of programmers and PhD students. Project management experience will constitute a major plus (Trento is the project coordinator). The main activities and project responsibilities of the successful candidate will be: • Develop advanced fact extraction methods, also extending existing opinion extraction methods • Develop novel text extraction techniques for supporting bias and diversity analysis • Understand the evolution mechanism of facts, opinions, trends and knowledge structuring; develop advanced approaches and methods to deal with the various aspects of knowledge evolution. • Enable users and applications to obtain an improved interpretation of past, current and future situations based on an enhanced understanding of knowledge and opinion evolution. • Collaborating with the other partners of the consortium in the development of innovative methods for detecting and handling bias in text and cross-media sources. • The successful candidates will be expected to produce top level research and to publish it in the major relevant venues. They will be involved in the supervision of PhD students and in the creation of a strong group in their research area. The successful candidates will support the project coordinator in the overall project management activities. These activities will include, among other things: managing their work and that of the collaborators, continuous monitoring and checking of the project results, producing project deliverables, managing contacts and collaborations with the project partners. Salary: according to experience, but expected in the range 24KEuro – 36KEuro/ year **NET**. Duration: 3 years plus possibly a few extra months, starting as soon as possible, and ending with the end of the project.
