*************************************************************** * SAMT 2008 - CALL FOR PARTICIPATION * * 3rd International Conference on * * Semantic And digital Media Technologies * * Koblenz, Germany, 3-5 December 2008 * *************************************************************** In cooperation with GI, ACM, IEEE, and Eurographics. Herewith we would like to encourage you to participate at the SAMT 2008 conference held in Koblenz on 3-5 December 2008. The rich technical and social program of this event together with useful registration information can be found at the conference web site: http://samt2008.uni-koblenz.de . Please register via https://www.conftool.net/samt2008 . --------------- Important Dates --------------- Early registration Nov 7 Late registration Nov 30 On desk registration Dec 2-5 Conference Dec 2-5 --------------------- Objectives and Topics --------------------- Large amounts of multimedia material, such as images, audio, video, and 3D/4D material, as well as computer generated 2D, 3D, and 4D content, already exist and are growing at increasing rates. While these amounts are growing, managing distribution of and access to multimedia material is becoming ever harder, both for lay and professional users. The SAMT conference series tackles these problems by investigating the semantics and pragmatics of multimedia generation, management, and user access. The conference targets scientifically valuable research tackling the semantic gap between the low-level signal data representation of multimedia material and the high-level meaning that providers, consumers, and prosumers associate with the content. ---------------- Invited Speakers ---------------- During the conference two interesting invited talks will be given. The first one, given by Jane Hunter, Professor of the University of Queensland, Australia, will be on "Tracking the Progress of Multimedia Semantics - from MPEG-7 to Web 3.0". This talk will address the next generation of hybrid scalable classification systems that combine social tagging, machine-learning and traditional library classification approaches. The second keynote talk with the title "Data by the People, for the People" will be given by Mor Namaan from the Rutgers University School of Communication, Information and Library Studies, USA. --------- Eurotalks --------- European Commission Representatives, Albert Gauthier and Luis Rodriguez-Rosello, have been invited to the conference and will give the so called Eurotalks. Albert Gauthier works as a Project Officer at the European Commission in Luxembourg. His team supports the development of semantic-based and context-aware technologies. Luis Rodriguez-Rosello heads the Unit "Networked Media Systems". You can book an appointment for consultation with them writing an email to Ruth Goetten samt2008@uni-koblenz.de . ------------------ Oral Presentations ------------------ In a highly selective review process, from 52 full paper submissions 12 have been chosen for oral presentation. The list of accepted papers can be found under: http://samt2008.uni-koblenz.de/index.php?page=publications ----------------- Posters and Demos ----------------- Altogether 35 posters will be presented at the conference. Moreover, the K-Space special demo session chaired by Noel E. O'Connor from the Dublin City University and Thierry Decklerck from the DFKI Saarbruecken is part of the conference program. Here, final results of the K-Space project, NoE about Knowledge Space of Semantic Inference for Automatic Annotation and Retrieval of Multimedia Content, ending in December 2008 will be presented in form of impressing demos. ----------------------- Workshops and Tutorials ----------------------- The conference program includes three interesting workshops, namely * International Workshop on Interacting with Multimedia Content in the Social Semantic Web http://aksw.org/Events/2008/IMCSSW * Cross-Media Information Analysis, Extraction and Management http://www.dcs.shef.ac.uk/~jmag/samt-cross-media-workshop-2008 * Semantic 3D Media http://www.focusk3d.eu/s-3d as well as three tutorials, namely * A Semantic Multimedia Web http://homepages.cwi.nl/~media/samt08 * Ontologies and the Semantics of Visualization http://samt2008.uni-koblenz.de/index.php?page=tutorials * Creating Semantically Rich Virtual Reality Applications. http://samt2008.uni-koblenz.de/index.php?page=tutorials -------------- Industrial Day -------------- In addition, an industrial day on semantic technologies in industry and production chaired by Werner Haas from Joanneum Research in Graz, Austria, is offered to the conference participants. This industry day is organized to enable media professionals, content providers, broadcasters, professional content users, machine vision experts, and related industrial practitioners to gain first hand experience of relevant multimedia semantic analysis technologies and associated commercial applications. We will bring together the people related to production with those from documentation. ------ Events ------ There will be a number of social events offered to the participants during the SAMT 2008 conference. Apart from Mayors reception and a gala dinner, an excursion to The Bundesarchiv (Federal German Record Office) will be organized. The Bundesarchiv constitutes as the archives for the centralized tradition of the history of the Federal Republic of Germany and its legal and functional predecessors. Please register soon, as the number of participants for this excursion is limited to 25 person. ----- Venue ----- The conference will take place at "Contel Koblenz", a *** conference hotel at the banks of river Mosel.
