I'm very thankful that you mention HyTime (and of course I'm aware of
this important technology :). However, my question was: "Can the linked
data principles be applied to multimedia assets?" 

Did I understand correctly that your answer is "Use HyTime"? If yes, I'd
be more than happy to learn how to do this.
