CfP: Semantic Technology Adoption Results at ASWC 2008 (Deadline 15.09.2008)

SASTAR Workshop

State of the Art:
Semantic Technology Adoption Results

co-located with the Asian Semantic Web Conference 2008
Bangkok, Thailand 8-11 December 2008

http://fandango.cs.unitn.it/net-economy/SASTAR/index.htm

Objectives

The goal of the SASTAR workshop is to demonstrate the early adoption
of semantic technologies by enterprises, and to promote further
technology transfer from Semantic Web research to industry. It will
bring industry and research together to present and discuss the pros
and cons of applying semantic technologies in business processes, not
only to identify how industrial requirements can be met, but also
important issues of technology maturity, accessibility, integration
into existing enterprise IT structures and maintenance throughout the
entire ontology and metadata lifecycle.

Call for papers

We seek concrete results from technology transfer from research to
industry of Semantic Web technologies. In particular, we invite
researchers to report on their experiences from the application and
use of semantic technology within business processes.

We want to focus on:

· how semantic technology is being used TODAY in industry

· what still needs to be done by researchers to ensure that it will
still be getting used TOMORROW (i.e. open requirements that have been
identified in the transfer)

The workshop provides an opportunity to inform an industry audience of
real applications of semantic technology for enterprises today and
gain feedback on open issues and unmet industry requirements.

We plan to have a small number of presentations, a larger number of
posters/demos and a significant timeslot for discussion (with a short
keynote).

Posters/demos will be made by technology developers who want to
showcase semantic solutions in a smaller event with a high potential
of direct contacts.

Topics of Interest

We aim for a broad range of topics to be covered in terms of their
industrial value and barriers to uptake, including (but not limited
to):

· Ontology Engineering,
· Metadata Extraction,
· Reasoning,
· Mediation,
· Data Integration,
· Semantic Web Services,
· Search and Personalization,
· Ontology methodologies in business practice,
· Ontologies and corporate knowledge,
· Representation of knowledge and business processes,
· Linguistic representation in organizational knowledge,
· Enterprise modelling,
· Ontology evaluation
· Ontologies and electronic catalogs,
· Ontologies and e-commerce,
· Ontologies in the practice of engineering,
· Ontologies in the practice of medical sciences,
· Ontologies in finance, Ontologies and e-government.

Important Dates

15 September 2008 - Paper Submission
30 September 2008 - Notification of Acceptance
15 October 2008 - Camera Ready

Submission

Workshop submissions will be electronic and should follow the ASWC
2008 guidelines.

Both researchers and practitioners can submit papers in two forms:

1) papers which might be accepted as theoretical or case study
presentations (up to 6 pages). These should come from industry
scenarios, presenting examples of semantic technologies adoption, new
theoretical (both organizational and computer science) open problems,
industry requirements, or other business experiences.

2) poster-demos which might be accepted as application presentations
(up to 2 pages). The content should come from European, American or
Asian technology providers, presenting examples of industry-suitable
semantic tools. It is required a short description of the tool,
justifying its usefulness in industry and describing the demo that
will be made.

The workshop proceeding format is LNCS (ASWC) see the conference website.

Papers and poster-demos will be submitted to the EasyChair conference
system available soon on line .
