Paola, Sorry for the delay - we had quite a lot to do with gathering and addressing the feedback we got so far regarding the riese launch ;) (btw, thanks to all the nice people out there for giving us detailed feedback, bug reports and the like; most appreciated) You're right, currently there is only (compared to the overall Eurostat data available) a tiny bit online - try, for example one of the following: http://riese.joanneum.at/data/mf200rt/ <http://riese.joanneum.at/data/mf200rt/> http://riese.joanneum.at/data/bp_curac/ <http://riese.joanneum.at/data/bp_curac/> http://riese.joanneum.at/data/euro_mf/ <http://riese.joanneum.at/data/euro_mf/> http://riese.joanneum.at/data/dba10000/ <http://riese.joanneum.at/data/dba10000/> http://riese.joanneum.at/data/er012/ <http://riese.joanneum.at/data/er012/> http://riese.joanneum.at/data/em044/ <http://riese.joanneum.at/data/em044/> The riese Semantic Web application has been developed using SWI-Prolog (conversion) and PHP and Javascript (templates), with some parts done in YUI [1], it has been tested in IE7 and FF2. I actually have to thank you a lot, because your question triggered a new (experimental) feature we plan to introduce in the next release: so called 'data updates'. The idea here is to use a feed format in RDF/OWL, (AtomOwl [2]) to signal when new data has arrived (cf. [3] for example); this is of especial importance as soon as we support the 'live' updates (Eurostat updates it data twice a day and we pland to be in sync, somehow :) Cheers, Michael [1] http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/ <http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/> [2] http://bblfish.net/work/atom-owl/2006-06-06/AtomOwl.html <http://bblfish.net/work/atom-owl/2006-06-06/AtomOwl.html> [3] http://riese.joanneum.at/updates/ <http://riese.joanneum.at/updates/> ---------------------------------------------------------- Michael Hausenblas, MSc. I tried a clickin a few buttons and it retuned 'no data found' but I will look again (always in a hurry, bad connection etc) Has it been fully populated or is it my browser again? I will try to give you more feedback later Well done, hopefully it will become established practice is it optimized for any browser in particular? cheers PDM ----- Original Message ----- From: "Hausenblas, Michael" <michael.hausenblas@joanneum.at> To: <semantic-web@w3.org>; "Linking Open Data" <linking-open-data@simile.mit.edu>; "RDFa" <public-rdf-in-xhtml-tf@w3.org>; "SWD WG" <public-swd-wg@w3.org> Sent: Thursday, January 31, 2008 4:54 PM Subject: [Eurostat dataset] riese = linked data + RDFa [[ Apologies in case you receive multiple copies of this announcement ]] The 'riese' awakes: We are happy being able to announce the alpha release of riese (RDFizing and Interlinking the EuroStat Data Set Effort): http://riese.joanneum.at/ To the best of our knowledge this is the first approach deploying linked data with XHTML+RDFa. With 'riese' we aim at serving both humans (with a nice GUI) and machines (with RDF-based metadata) from a single source. Although we currently only serve some 5 million RDF triples, the goal is to have the entire Eurostat dataset (3 billion triples) online, along with millions of high-quality interlinks. The interlinking in 'riese' is hybrid: On the one hand we use standard template-based interlinking for, e.g. geonames interlinking, on the other hand we offer an interface to add semantic links in a Wiki manner, called User Contributed Interlinking (UCI). Regarding Semantic Web technologies, the following is an excerpt of what has been used to build 'riese': + linked data [1] + XHTML+RDFa [2] + SKOS [3] + SW crawling sitemap extension [4] Enjoy 'riese' and please contact us for feature requests or bug reports at: riese@joanneum.at The riese-team, Wolfgang, Yves & Michael PS: In case you wonder what 'riese' means: it's a pun - 'riese' is the German word for giant ;) [1] http://esw.w3.org/topic/SweoIG/TaskForces/CommunityProjects/LinkingOpenD ata [2] http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml-rdfa-primer/ [3] http://www.w3.org/TR/skos-reference/ [4] http://sw.deri.org/2007/07/sitemapextension/ ---------------------------------------------------------- Michael Hausenblas, MSc.
