On this list you might see some useful discussions, while with others, like as kweb, ontoweb-list, etc., only the conference ads or funds spending accounting. Usually authors avoid a good ventilation of their ideas opting for a more pragmatic way: narrow formal gatherings and quick publishing in the conference proceedings. That these raw papers hardly digested don't count much, they have been published and must be somehow awarded. Agree that something must be done with this crazeness of cross-postings, for the good idea of public forums is close to be undermined.
