That does seem like a practical way forward. In the meantime one can  
use N3 or first/rest.  I'd like to see the problem fixed.

Suppose we allow rdf:li wherever rdf:Description is allowed, in  
fact.  That would fix the problem of literals not  being allowed as  
subjects too.
