The International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC) invites comments on the first public draft of: Common Components Library Specification http://iptc.org/pdl.php?fn=DRAFT-NAR_1.0-spec-CoCo-LibSpec_2.pdf 13 July 2005 This document describes the Administrative and Descriptive Metadata components of the News Structure Model. It specifies the semantics of common metadata elements for News, including some Dublin Core elements, eg: dc:audience dc:created dc:creator dc:contributor dc:description dc:language dc:subject dc:title as well as additional elements, eg: genre infoSource service slugline We decided to create genre rather than use dc:type as there isn't a good enough semantic match. For the same reason, we decided to create infoSource rather than use dc:source. Some of the metadata elements have been given specific qualifiers: role -- for dc:creator and dc:contributor exclude and significance -- for dc:audience The Common Components Library Specification follows on from the recently released: News Structure Model http://iptc.org/pdl.php?fn=DRAFT-NAR_1.0-spec-NewsStructure-Model_14.pdf 7 July 2005 News Metadata Framework Technical Specification http://iptc.org/pdl.php?fn=DRAFT-NAR_1.0-spec-NMDF-TechSpec_6.pdf 6 July 2005 News Metadata Framework Requirements Specification http://iptc.org/pdl.php?fn=DRAFT-NAR_1.0-spec-NMDF-BusReq_34.pdf 22 June 2005 These and other Specifications under development by the IPTC are available at: http://www.iptc.org/dev/ Misha Wolf Standards Manager, Reuters Chair, IPTC News Metadata Framework WG ----------------------------------------------------------------- Visit our Internet site at http://www.reuters.com To find out more about Reuters Products and Services visit http://www.reuters.com/productinfo Any views expressed in this message are those of the individual sender, except where the sender specifically states them to be the views of Reuters Ltd.
