No, there is no new proposal. Due to technical reasons I had to close two
PRs (one of these -  the PR for fn:ranks) then delete my fork and get a new
fork, then re-open them without any changes.

As for getting a decision on the two alternative (but quite close)
proposals on fn:ranks, I think we should discuss our positions.

I continue to believe that it is good to have two proposals and based on
these to finally arrive at a synthesis of both that is a win-win situation.
