See > http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-xml-core-wg/2008Nov/thread.html#msg0 In NS 1.0, NCName is defined to start with NCNameStartChar which is defined in NS 1.0 at http://www.w3.org/TR/xml-names/#NT-NCNameStartChar to be Letter | '_' where Letter is defined in XML 1.0, and Letter in XML 1.0 5th Ed does not include all the characters allowed as the initial character of a Name in XML 1.0 5th Ed. We could redefine NS 1.0 NCName as Name (from XML) without colon and leave the now orphaned NCNameChar and NCNameStartChar productions in case other specs reference them--we may need to update them appropriately to reflect XML 1.0 5th Ed changes. ACTION to Henry and Richard: Make a specific proposal for changing the NS 1.0 spec to address this NCNameStartChar problem. We need to be sure we check back with James on our suggested resolution. > > 6.
