If we are going to have a URI merging algorithm, I think it would better to refer to the one in RFC 2396 or 3986, and specify modifications to it, rather than restating the algorithm with the risk of introducing inconsistencies. The algorithm in 3986 is more formally presented, and I think we could use that one. I think the merging algorithm in 5.2.2 can be used unchanged, but allowing for parts of Base to be undefined. The dot-removal algorithm in 5.2.4 needs to be modified: step A should not apply to leading "../", and step C should not apply if the last segment in the output buffer if it is "..". -- Richard
