Hello public-xml-core-wg, The xml:base Recommendation http://www.w3.org/TR/xmlbase/ XML Base W3C Recommendation 27 June 2001 is certainly useful. However, the specification for URI has been updated; RFC 2396 is obseleted by RFC 3986. In addition, RFC 3987 (IRI) has been published. I would like to ask that xml:base be similarly updated, so that it is clear how relative references are resolved. (I think that it is already fairly clear, and that not much work is required for this update). The changes in XLink 1.1 were very useful, http://www.w3.org/TR/xlink11/ one of them was an update to reference RFC 3986 and 3987 (for example, removing the description of escaping, and referencing IRI for that instead). See http://www.w3.org/TR/xlink11/#link-locators Indeed, some of the spec changes from XLink 1.0 -> 1.1 could be directly re-used to update xml:base. -- Chris Lilley mailto:chris@w3.org Chair, W3C SVG Working Group W3C Graphics Activity Lead Co-Chair, W3C Hypertext CG
