This was clear even before the namespaces spec was written, and one of the goals of XML Schema was to provide a namespace-aware replacement for DTDs. I don't think there's any enthusiasm for changing DTDs now, either among the people on the XML Core WG or among the vendors. For example, I don't think that Microsoft would support it, given their hostility to any changes to the XML layer (viz XML 1.1). If Schemas don't enforce everything you need, I think it would be better to try and get the XML Schema WG to address it. -- Richard
