FW: XML Core Working Group Charter Approved, Join the XML Core Working Group (Call for Participation)

The Call for Participation in the newly re-chartered
XML Core WG is now open.

Please have your AC rep following the instructions for
(re-)joining the WG.

[Though it would be nice to get this done as soon as
practical, no one will be barred from participation
for a couple weeks at least. Plan to dial into this
week's telcon regardless.]

Subject: XML Core Working Group Charter Approved, Join the XML Core Working Group (Call for Participation)

Dear Advisory Committee Representative,

Based on recent Advisory Committee review, I am pleased to announce
approval for the new charter for XML Core Working Group.

All reviewers supported the proposed charter [1], with one abstention.
One comment was made about the importance of future developments around
linking, in particular to address needs in the HTML Activity. We believe
that such developments, if any, should be made in a separate group. The
current discussion has been around a new Linking Working Group. The
likelihood of chartering new work will depend on evidence of enough
interest to make a viable Working Group a reasonable expectation.

The Director approved the XML Core Working Group charter as proposed.

The main changes to the Chater have the effect of bringing some new work
into the scope of the Working Group:

  - maintenance of the XPointer(s), Canonical XML, and Exclusive XML
    Canonicalization specifications,
  - new W3C Recommendations for XLink 1.1 and Canonical XML 1.1.

See below for information about joining the XML Core Working Group.

If you have any questions or need further information about the XML Core
Working Group, please contact the Chairs, Paul Grosso
<pgrosso@arbortext.com> and Norman Walsh <Norman.Walsh@Sun.COM>, or the
Team Contacts, Henry Thompson <ht@w3.org> and Philippe Le Hégaret
<plh@w3.org>

Liam Quin, XML Activity Lead;
