Send us your questions to be put to new W3C CEO Jeff Jaffe at this
weekend's LibrePlanet conference <http://libreplanet.org/>

This blog post at: <http://www.fsf.org/blogs/community/w3c>

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) recently appointed Jeff Jaffe as
their new Chief Executive Officer. Jeff had most recently worked as
Chief Technology Officer at Novell.

W3C is an international community that sets standards for the web. Its
work has had significant positive impact, and has helped free the web
from proprietary standards. W3C is also famous as the home of Tim
Berners-Lee, the inventor of the world wide web.

I had the opportunity earlier this week to sit down with Jeff and
discuss with him his appointment and learn a little more about the work
of W3C and his plans for the coming year. Jeff talked about the
importance of W3C's Royalty-Free Patent Policy and we discussed how the
free software community could participate in and follow the work of W3C.
He stated that he wanted to "make sure that free software advocates view
W3C -- which has spearheaded the removal of patent royalties from
standards -- as a great place to participate."

Jeff has indicated that, as the new W3C CEO, he will emphasize listening
to stakeholders during his first few weeks on the job. As part of that,
he has kindly offered to participate in a session at this weekend's
LibrePlanet conference <http://libreplanet.org/> at the Harvard Science
Center, where we can discuss increasing the cooperation between the free
software community and the W3C.

So, if you would like to put a question to Jeff about the work of W3C,
this is a great opportunity. Please write to <campaigns@fsf.org> and we
will select the best questions we receive.
