I'm an independent consultant, industry analyst, strategist and evangelist for mobile social networking. I've been in this field since late 2006 when I realized that virtual communities would be the primary area in which personal social media would be aggregated, shared and monetized. I prepared the most comprehensive market research study to date on the topic of mobile social networking which was published by Informa Telecoms and Media, the leading provider of data and information to mobile network operators worldwide. After completing this study, in February 2008, I discussed with W3C Mobile Web Initiative Lead (Dominique Hazael-Massieux) the possibility of organizing a workshop on obstacles to the smooth expansion of social networking. We developed this concept and, in January 2009, co-chaired the W3C Workshop on the Future of Social Networking [1] in Barcelona. In addition to projects with clients, I'm currently concluding the second edition of the Informa Mobile Social Networking report which examines business and technology trends in the area and provides forecasts and recommendations. The forecasts and industry insights are based on a deep and wide professional network and, as a result of interviews with people in the trenches, I have performed detailed analyses of over 50 commercial services and closely follow the status of mobile social networking in 14 countries and 6 regions of the world. I'm an invited expert and wish to contribute in a variety of ways to laying the foundations for scalable, interoperable and business-friendly social networking platforms and services.
