Introduction

Hi all,

I am Jodi Schneider [1] from the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI) [2], National University of Ireland, Galway. I'm a librarian by training (especially interested in digital libraries and FRBR). Through Code4Lib, I became interested in the Semantic Web and Linked Data. (I was one of the founding editors of the Code4Lib Journal.)

After working in U.S. libraries, I moved to DERI as a Ph.D. researcher in the Social Semantic Web. My research is about integrating tools for serious debate (argumentation) into social media. I'm particularly interested in applying this research to scholarly communication and publishing, and this fall I began participating in the Rhetorical Structure [3] group of WC3's Health Care and Life Sciences interest group.

I blog [4] irregularly about libraries, technology, and my Ph.D. studies; I'm more active on twitter [5]. I'm a strong proponent of open culture, and try to be an advocate for open scholarly tools like Zotero and AcaWiki. I'm also interested in bringing library values to the Web, and computational thinking to libraries -- hopefully bridging the library, information science, and computer science communities, which have a lot to offer each other!

I'm delighted to join such an experienced and multitalented group -- I look forward to learning from you all! I think we're going to do great things together!

-Jodi
