No call 3 Feb 2011

Group,

There will be no call this week. Please continue working on your
proposals.

While we don't all agree on all of the requirements, there is a solid
core on which we do agree. Keep in mind that for a standard to be
successful it must be widely adopted. Wide adoption happens when the
standard meets the needs of more than just one or two organizations.
Thus, faster progress and greater ultimate adoption success will come
from proposals that inclusively address multiple needs. Proposing
solutions that make other strongly-desired requirements difficult or
impossible to support is not helpful in either the short- or long-term.

However, it is reasonable to submit proposals that cover a subset of
the requirements, with the understanding that a final proposal or set
of proposals may well differ from the individual subsets as we work to
meld them into a more cohesive whole.

I look forward to seeing the various proposals and the extent to which
they cover the various requirements.
