Hi W3C GeoXG members, The commercial map services platform for the cellular phone that uses SVG will be start in the beginning of next month in Japan. The name of this platform is "EZ guide map". And provider is telecommunication career KDDI in 2nd place of Japan. SVG Map Viewer for this platform will be installed in 12 models among new models that this company will put on the market next month. The SVG map data for this platform needs CRS (Coordinate Reference Systems) metadata of SVG. (See http://www.w3.org/TR/SVG11/coords.html#GeographicCoordinates) As a result, centering the map by built-in GPS and layering some SVG layers have been achieved. Therefore, they have good compatibility with the data confoming to SVG Map profile that SVG Map consortium recommends. (http://blog.svg-map.com/2007/04/svg_map_profile_4df1.html) And, ten map services that use this platform starts at the same time. Three major base map provider companies of Japan are offering the base maps to these services. That is, the greater part of base map providers released SVG maps (with CRS metadata) in Japan. More detailed information will be presented at SVG Open 2007 in Japan. (http://www.svgopen.org/) The following information are all Japanese. When google transletor etc. are used, some information might be obtained.
