Homogenous implies common general rules and standards. But end users in general suffer from what is also known in other circles as the portal proliferation syndrome.

This translates in to many platforms of development.

I think a homogenous approach with healthy collaboration is great for the evolution of "the next social network" though. The hard part is getting the healthy collaboration since we don't all know each other personally.
