Hi everyone, I am now ready to be more active in this IG, after being busy with other projects. I am from Swedish Institute of Computer Science (SICS), a national research institute in Sweden. This means I am "IT" rather than "EM". Three reasons for my interest in EIIF are: - worked for some time with the defense establishment, on information interoperability across administrative borders. A major political cause for such interoperability is that smaller European countries foresee much more participation in international operations (military or humanitarian), and they need IT support for seamless interoperation. The major difference between this defense domain and the EM domain is that in the defense domain there are accepted reference points for what information and service interoperation should be supported (mainly NATO standards), but they do not cover everything. An additional challenge is that the military are now expected to be able to interoperate with the civilian sector (for instance, supporting EM) where there are no clear baseline standards at the content level. - was involved in a project in IT infrastructure for public agencies that have to cooperate in the real world -- police, fire fighters, hospitals, ... -- where information interchange is a critical problem for effective coordination of multi-agency actions. - have also relationships to the EM sector in Sweden, where modelling and standards have been discussed during the last couple of years. I will in my next message make some comments on what I have seen on the mailing list.... /olle -- ------------------------------------------------------------------ Olle Olsson olleo@sics.se Tel: +46 8 633 15 19 Fax: +46 8 751 72 30 [Svenska W3C-kontoret: olleo@w3.org] SICS [Swedish Institute of Computer Science] Box 1263 SE - 164 29 Kista Sweden ------------------------------------------------------------------
