than going back in the app, it goes to the previous page in the browser,
thus losing the app. I would dearly like to catch this, to be able to do
what the user thought was going to happen.

an event signalling the return, so that I can check that the data is up to
date for instance.

So I did a little reading, I find these:

How to Detect Browser Back Button event - Cross Browser

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/25806608/how-to-detect-browser-back-button-event-cross-browser

How to detect wake from sleep in the browser

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/25806608/how-to-detect-browser-back-button-event-cross-browser

That seems to suggest that it is possible to support both proposed events.
