Instructions and Guidebook for editors

Dear Editors,
Thank-you for agreeing to be editors
This is a key function of the working group and can work very well or
can work poorly.
How this happens is up to you, me, staff, and how well we communicate
amongst ourselves.
I am willing to provide any help that you need to make this happen
smoothly and perhaps even a bit enjoyably.
First off, there is an email list created for editor
communications[1]. You should subscribe[2] to it as soon as possible
to avoid missing editor communications.
It is a public list since all the work we do is in the open.
Archives[3] are maintained and are visible to the public.
The W3C Editors Home Page[4] contains useful information for editors
including pointers to documents describing tools and formats.
We will be using XMLSpec for our work.

For managing our documents across several editors, we will be using
CVS. At W3C CVS is authenticated using ssh. You need to create a
public key and Staff needs to give you permissions to access the
appropriate directories. Your Team contact, Yves Lafon, will help you
set up CVS. If you have already generated a public key for use with
the W3, it may be possible to use that same key for this work.

The first step for editors will be the conversion of the member
specifications to XMLSpec and W3C formats to create the first public
working draft.
The first public working draft is mostly a conversion. Even though
there may be issues resolved and awaiting incorporation, the first
public working draft should not include anything more than the basic
document conversion and necessary W3C style adjustments.
We will discuss this a bit during our distributed meeting of 2009-01-20.

Thanks again, we appreciate your good efforts.
