If that is the issue, I think there are two solutions: we can nudge the XSLT so that you get different text generated depending on the target of <specref>, or use <xspecref> instead, e.g. <xspecref href="#frag-ids-table">table 1</xspecref> . The latter approach does not scale for large documents, but for this small one I think it would fulfill its purpose. l Felix
