Meeting minutes

  Logistics

McCool: would like to talk about the next steps
¡K as we discussed last time, Plugfest is a possibility
   ¡K also use cases
¡K your group could give input to the WoT use cases discussion

minutes of last meeting to be reviewed

August 31st, Michael McCool leaves Intel and also participation
   in WoT

Michael Koster, as captured in last meeting minutes, will take
   over

Discussing now about plugfest in November

Joining remotely would require paying some participation fee
   but should be cheap

   Minutes of last meeting approved

    Other possible options

other option is to continue meeting series
¡K Sebastian can only join once a month, not once a week

other option is F2F meetings. Easiest place in Munich

meeting options include Munich, Sophia Antipolis, Berlin
¡K seen a lot of discussion by various manufacturers. There are
gaps about reasoning on this information, not only what the
   devices do
¡K more engagement about industrial application is WoT. While
higher level modeling would go rather SC IG

It has to be checked whether Repo ownership and so are
resources where Michael Koster has right privileges on

Discussion about original goals of the liason

Rigo and Juanjo remind goal was to avoid fragmentations and try
to come with a unique solution combining the best of WoT and
   NGSI-LD results

Purpose of the NGSI-LD liaison and Smart Cities IG as an option

   Purpose of liaison?

*** Capture opportunities for standards for digital twins...

*** Explore aligning the visions of NSGI-LD and WoT...

   *** Avoid fragmentation...

   *** Avoid unnecessary transformation,

   *** Capture ambient semantics

*** Understand both without a large burden

*** Not sufficient that it's useful, needs to be carried by
   institutions

Kaz: reminds of the W3C Smart Cities Workshop and the Web-based
Digital Twins for Smart Cities Interest Group. had discussion
about possible Web-based framework and ontologies for smart
   city purposes
   ¡K with JTC1 guys, etc.
¡K I'd suggest you bring your pain points, best practices and
   ideas to that group
¡K if you're still interested PoC implementations, you could
join the WoT Plugfest during TPAC as well
¡K note that I'm not suggesting we move this discussion to ISO.
actually, NGSI-LD by ETSI/FIWAARE is already one of the liaison
targets for the Smart Cities IG. ISO, IEC, JTC1, etc., are also
   part of its liaison targets.

McCool: we are mostly talking bottom up, but also large scale
top down, in smart cities information modelling. But this group
   is mostly on industrial modelling
¡K NGSI_LD was interesting because of the FIWARE connection.
   This gives you more access

Juanjo: FIWARE community perspective is also to work for other
domains. Question about introducing actions is also cross
   domain
¡K it is also an important industry

McCool: to engage with WoT, driven by Siemens, is really going
   into industrial space.

McCool mentions that continuing discussion within W3C Smart
Cities Interest Group would be nice but one issue is that some
of the relevant people within WoT to engage are more focused in
   industry (factories, etc) matter

Juanjo: who is active in SC IG and at the same time in the WoT?

Kaz: Michael Koster is the chair of the Smart cities IG (SC IG)
¡K the group is a liaison center for digital twins and smart
   cities within W3C

McCool: reaching out to groups that do AI. Lot of technical
activities. Big interest in knowledge graphs for reasoning on
   conformance and security
¡K device, wanna talk to it and that's it. If digital twins goes
way beyond the scope of WoT. Have discussions happening in a
group that is more higher level

Juanjo: we may imagine that the IG could be extended beyond
   smart cities

McCool: focus, digital twins, wanted to narrow the focus to
avoid boiling the ocean. Was done deliberately to narrow
attention. But people need to consider discussing issues across
   domains.

Kaz: group holds monthly meetings, next meeting will be subject
   to doodle poll.

ACTION: Kaz will send doodle poll for SC IG to this Group as
   well

McCool: suggested to pre-advertise this topic of wot & ngsi-ld
   to the IG

Juanjo: we have worked in support of actions in NGSI-LD, make
it compatible. Were ready to present some of the results. We
are making good progress on that front.
¡K maybe we can bring that progress to SC IG

McCool: where is the right venue for that discussion
¡K feedback for design, drill down use cases. Would good to warn
SC IG to get good feedback
¡K in general, the other topics, should be rather a seminar with
a focus on one topic, not just an open Workshop

Kaz: what the SC IG has been doing is inviting the related SDO
people and ask them about pain points, and discuss what Web
   standards could do for them.

McCool: not having regular meetings like this, but concentrated
   seminars with a fixed roadmap

McCool: next meeting should be organized by M.Koster. Kaz
   should inform him
¡K invite people here to SC IG for them to see if it makes
   sense.

Kaz: SC IG will publish Agenda in advance. We can invite you
   any time

McCool: question: should we merge ngsi-ld mailing list into
other things. Probably good idea to cross things

Kaz: we don't need to do so. I can simply invite the NGSI-LD
guys to the SC IG. I'll talk with Koster as the Chair of the SC
   IG about that.

   [adjourned]
