RE: Capabilities & Schemas

Interesting. I can certainly see the use case for an IoT system to know that a door lock, a door sensor and a door opener are all devices which belong to an entity known as "front door". My question would be whether this metadata should be in the Thing Description or not?

...
One advantage having it in the Thing Directory (both the "feature of interest", the "device" and the link associating them) is for thing discovery. There are many use case where you need to look for devices that are associated to a feature of interest and vice versa. For example, which "lamps will light the meeting room?", "which doors will a connected locker will open?". ...
Some of these are probably good candidates for capabilities of a thing and some, like location, make more sense as a Feature of Interest binding. The concept of storing information alongside a thing in a database is what I mean by linking between items stored in a directory. I would like to come up with some concrete design ideas to do this for the next plugfest.

There exist ontologies that model such binding (e.g DogOnt). Sebastien Bolle (in cc) will present a platform call Thing'In which implement such functionality at our June 6th WoT meeting. I would be interested in involving this platform at one forthcoming plugfest. The Lyon's one would be more convenient for us because we are located 100km from Lyon. However I could contribute remotely for the preceding plugfests.

Best regards,

Fano
