Re: Semantic Interop article series

I am happy to help out with the positioning in respect to W3C’s work on semantic technology standards, and the vision for the web of things as a distributed declarative model of things and their relationships, as a basis for enabling open markets of services independent of the underlying protocols and standards. W3C is working on standards for sharing data sets, e.g. the Data Exchange WG, which complements the object oriented focus in the web of things on exposing things with properties, actions and events. We should note the challenges in the face evolving models in uncoupled and weakly coupled communities, and the consequences of different use cases in terms of the complexity of models and their fit for particular purposes. Just because one community has a standard for X doesn’t make it a good fit for your needs for X! A further challenge is the need for descriptive rather than prescriptive models if we are to be effective in dealing with commercial differentiation across models and across competitors.
