[TF-AP] Task force on APIs and protocols

Dear WoT IG,

In the break-out discussion of the task force for API & Protocol mapping at the Munich F2F it was proposed that we (Kazuo Kajimoto and Johannes Hund) should moderate the discussion of this task force to get things rolling.

As the regular calls for the whole interest group will be reduced to every four weeks, the TF decided to have bi-weekly calls, alternating between US and Asian compatible time-zones, for the complete task force. We also plan to have some additional calls in the beginning to pick up pace.

To start, it was decided to have a first call on Thursday, April 30 @ 9am CEST.
-> Can we get a webex for this? If not I'd stick to IRC & zakim, reusing the code for GMT-X.

We do a doodle poll for the day of week for the regular call: http://doodle.com/cw5tdschat6i29w7

To discuss, we can use the regular mailing list and simply add a tag [TF-AP] into the subject.

Content-wise, we discussed that we should aim for presenting a first sketch on the next face-to-face to collect feedback and to improve it and have a good contribution at the TPAC.

We try to get a start by asking people to give an sketched example how REST(+X) resources for the "metadata, events, properties and actions"-Model on the "WoT server" should look like of their use case (or a use case from the wiki), and also how the APIs could look like for a script that accesses or exposes the resource. Also, it could be helpful if people provide an architecture diagram when they explain their case. Please provide this input to the list or in the call.

The aim is here again not to go for full coverage, but to have a better understanding of the concepts presented and also to see if we have any fundamental differences there. We will try to gather some examples and directly move on as soon as possible while continuously collecting further examples alongside the discussion.

I (Johannes) will also give a sketch of what was meant by abstract interaction primitives and their mapping in an upcoming call.

Comments are of course welcome!

Best Regards,
Kazuo and Johannes
