FYI, the WARP Patent Advisory Group recommended the WebApps WG continue
to work on the Widgets Access Request Policy (WARP) spec:
http://www.w3.org/News/2011.html#entry-9270
The PAG Report's summary:
[[
http://www.w3.org/2009/11/widgets-pag/pagreport
*Executive Summary *
In reponse to Apple's withdrawal of IP, the Widgets Access Request
Policy (WARP) PAG <http://www.w3.org/2009/11/widgets-pag/Overview.html>
concluded that the claims in US patent 7,743,336: Widget security
<http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=7743336.PN.&OS=PN/7743336&RS=PN/7743336>
(hereinafter also called 'the 336 patent') which could potentially be
read to cover the WARP Specification
<http://www.w3.org/TR/widgets-access/> are anticipated by substantial
prior art <http://www.w3.org/2009/11/widgets-pag/prior-art.html>.
Consequently, the PAG does not believe there are valid 'Essential
Claims' against the WARP Specification
<http://www.w3.org/TR/widgets-access/>. Furthermore, the US Patent
Application 20070101146: Safe distribution and use of content
<http://appft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PG01&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=%2220070101146%22.PGNR.&OS=DN/20070101146&RS=DN/20070101146>
(hereinafter also called 'the 1146 Application') is seen as orthogonal
to the Widget Access Request Policy Candidate Recommendation 20 April
2010 <http://www.w3.org/TR/2010/CR-widgets-access-20100420/>
(hereinafter 'WARP Specification').
Consequently, the WARP PAG recommends that work on the Widget Access
Request Policy <http://www.w3.org/TR/widgets-access/> should be
continued without changes.
