Harald -- Few standards efforts have had the impact of WebRTC, a technology that has made realtime communications available to anyone with access to the Internet. Today, WebRTC is so ubiquitous that the "pre-WebRTC" world seems alien, as difficult to imagine as the state of medicine before the discovery of antibiotics. As a Chair of the WebRTC WG, you guided an ambitious idea from birth to maturity as a W3C Recommendation implemented in billions of endpoints, which served as a communications lifeline to a world isolated in quarantine. Congratulations for job well done - and best wishes for success in the challenges to come. ________________________________ From: Sergio Garcia Murillo <sergio.garcia.murillo@gmail.com> Sent: Thursday, October 3, 2024 5:40 AM To: Harald Alvestrand <harald@alvestrand.no> Cc: public-webrtc@w3.org <public-webrtc@w3.org> Subject: [EXTERNAL] Re: Passing the baton - I’m leaving the post of WEBRTC chair Harald, thank you very much for your hard work over all these years! That’s 13 and a half years - more time than I’ve spent in any other role. It’s been a joy to see WebRTC grow from an idea to a fully fledged API specification as a result of the work of this group - to see the maturation from “idea” to the most widely deployed realtime video API in human history, supporting the collaborative work of many millions of people every singe day, bringing the vision of the connecting Web into reality. There have been high points and low points - strong disagreements and moments of smooth consensus - but all along, the strong commitment of the WG members to bringing about this revolution in human communication has been the thing that carried us forward. I’ll not be leaving WEBRTC - I’ll be active as a document editor, debater and argument contributor - but it will be my pleasure to support Guido Urdaneta as a new working group chair, and contributing to the work of the working group for a long time to come. We changed the world - let’s continue to do so! Harald
