Dear editors and experts, I have two questions on the codec MIME media type In the latest version of the recommendation WebRTC: Real-Time Communication in Browsers (Mar 6, 2023). In 5.2.8 RTCRtpCodecParameters Dictionary, it is mentioned "The codec MIME media type/subtype. Valid media types and subtypes are listed in [IANA-RTP-2<https://www.w3.org/TR/webrtc/#bib-iana-rtp-2>]" l In the IANA-RTP-2 list (https://www.iana.org/assignments/rtp-parameters/rtp-parameters.xhtml#rtp-parameters-2), there is no VP8 codec, which is one of the mandatory-to-implement video codecs as specified in RFC7742 WebRTC Video Processing and Codec Requirements (https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc7742), so this restriction somehow seems to contradict the IETF RFC7742. Will this IANA-RTP-2 list or this part in the WebRTC recommendation be updated to address this issue? Or, is it an intention that VP8 is not used in WebRTC browsers with this restriction? l In the IANA-RTP-2 list, there are no other modern codecs like AV1, H265 and H266 which have been registered in IANA and have RTP payload format described in IETF RFCs. Will these codecs be included in the "valid media types and subtypes" in this WebRTC recommendation in the future? Looking forward to your explanation. Thank you. Best regards, Yin Zhao
