I don't think this is the venue for a protracted philosophical 
conversation on this point, so this is probably my last message on the 
topic; but those were changes with substantive improvements tied to 
them. The pain of changing them was carefully weighed against the value 
of doing so. Changes along the lines of what you suggest have no real 
benefit beyond aesthetics.
