This is roughly similar to my use case but yours fits more into the *certificate* environment, so I'll hold back my use case since it requires to elaborate quite a lot. @martinthomson Suppose the other peer expects a specific certificate (I think @steely-glint does something like that - maybe you can comment here, too?).
