Some of the Payswarm specs alias'ed "USD" to "https://iso.org/currencies/USD". So developers could write "USD", and given the proper JSON-LD context, it would expand to "https://iso.org/currencies/USD". The Web Payments WG has more or less rejected Linked Data as a first class citizen, but we're striving hard to ensure that the Web Payments messages may still be Linked Data if the developer ecosystem wants it.
